Take It To The Limit

I was visiting San Francisco for a friend’s wedding in June 2018. I had been across the Bay to visit a longtime client and heading back, I noticed this distinctive container ship making its way toward San Francisco. Port of Oakland is one of the largest facilities in North America and a considerable number of our goods and supplies make their way through this area. As I was crossing the Bay Bridge, I knew I was racing against the clock to get the shot I wanted. I weaved through traffic, found a parking space, and noticed my final drone battery with any charge was at about 75% capacity. It was windy but I sent my Phantom 4 Pro out and sure enough, she made her way to this spot as the sun was starting to set. Getting her back was going to be close, even in Sport mode, and I was a bundle of nerves as I watched the battery go to 20% before it was no longer over water. That’s what made capturing this image all the more rewarding. So much risk, and I was able to successfully get my own version of these ships that regularly decorate the Bay as they come and go from halfway around the world.
